Capturing Nature, July 16 & 17, 1-3 p.m.; Ages 7-12

Taught by Jaisy Hanlon, featured artist in Twenty Going on 21

$35 ($30 for TCM Members)

Registration required: (808) 237-5217 or email qyoung@tcmhi.org

The natural world has been a tremendous source of inspiration (and information) to artists for centuries. This two-day workshop will introduce simple methods of observing and rendering plant life.

Students will create line drawings and wire models that capture their subject in a traditional manner. These techniques establish good drawing skills and can later be applied to any subject matter.

On the last day, students will have an opportunity to "install" their wire sculpture on the property to be photographed in a natural setting. This workshop is inspired by the exhibition of botanical woodcarvings by Yoshihiro Suda. For children 7-12. Reservations required.
